Properties like this one make our hearts sing. Why? Because it perfectly combines our love for beautiful esthetics and interior, while focusing on sustainability and conscious living at the very same time. Owners Jules and Warren rejuvenated six old farm cottages with used and farm-found objects. They created wonderful, welcoming spaces with two to four bedrooms – all perfectly capable to accommodate your family! Surrounded by fields, mountains, a herb garden and fruit trees, your kids will have a blast. Either running around or lazing away in the hammock on your private porch with excellent views.
Food baskets filled with delicious local produce can be delivered on your doorstep on request, just like outdoor yoga sessions, early morning egg pickings or cow encounters. As The Farmstead is a mere 15 minutes drive from Franschhoek (and about 25 to Stellenbosch) you might want to do some wine tasting and eating out while you are there, too… The property can even arrange a driver so you will safely get back to your own little sanctuary- how’s that for service!
Oh and don’t forget to cool off in the dam!

A family owned- and managed wine farm that dates back to 1692, with so many wonderful features, we just cannot get enough!Spread across the grounds like a small village, the hotel boasts wonderful rooms and suites (for up to four persons- kids under 12 stay for free!). This all while surrounded by vineyards, historic farm buildings and beautiful gardens.
Spier offers wonderful activities for you as a family (Bike rides! Segway tours! Bird encounters!). But should you crave some alone time at the spa or by the pool, you can drop off your kid(s) at the wonderful Kids’ Clubhouse for some supervised crafts, farm walks, play or stories. Just make sure you reserve enough time to make use of all the food experiences Spier has in store for you: from lavish dinners to perfect picnics – options galore!
The icing on the cake would be the hotel’s commitment to social and environmental sustainability – earning several awards, such as the Future Forward Thinkers for Environmental Sustainability and gold at the African Responsible Tourism Awards. Great examples are the abstinence of artificial fertilizers and pesticides while growing fruit, vegetables and wines, and the reuse of water up to 100%. Bravo!
